The Champions League quarterfinals are finally over after some nail-biting matchups. Roma completed the upset of defeating Barcelona 3-0 and advanced on away goals resulting in one of the comebacks of the season. The following match was Juventus vs Real Madrid. Juventus came back after being down by 3 away goals but ultimately lost with the last kick of the fixture, which was a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty. Then Bayern Munich faced off against Sevilla. A classic “David vs. Goliath” match saw Bayern take the win by just one goal. Finally, Liverpool squared off against Manchester City and there was no shortage of goals in this fixture. Following herculean performances from Liverpool’s attack, they obliterated City with a 5-1 aggregate. Now, with Roma, Bayern, Liverpool and Real Madrid in the semifinals, let’s take a look and the draw.
Liverpool vs. Roma
The first match to be played will be Liverpool vs. Roma. Liverpool stands 3rd in the Premier League and has one of the hottest players of the season in Mohamed Salah. We know that offensively they are a force to be reckoned with but following their matchup against Manchester City we saw a side of Liverpool that we had not seen all season long. They managed to keep a clean sheet against the highest scoring team in the Premier League. Roma, on the other hand, stands 4th in the Serie A and possess great defensive players like Radja Naingolan in midfield and Kostas Manolas in the back line among others. This promises to be an exciting match up between 2 underdog stories that will have fans on the edge of their seats.
Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich
The 2nd semifinal will showcase Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich. Two European giants that have faced off 24 times in the Champions League and this will be their 25th and 26th time doing so. Bayern has already secured the Bundesliga title and show no signs of fatigue heading into this match. While Bayern is in cruise control Real Madrid has had, up to this point, a stellar 2018. While they still sit in 4th place and 15 points back off the top in La Liga their performances in the Champions league contrast from their domestic struggles. They have won 3 of the last 4 Champions League’s and they look to be on their way to make it 4 out of 5. Cristiano Ronaldo has shrugged off last years struggles in front of goal and has been on fire since the beginning of 2018.
