The NBA trade deadline is looming… There have been tons of rumors, speculations, and injuries leading into the next 24 hours or so. There have also been a few trades and releases already. There are plenty of teams that are trying to make a move. There are also a few teams that seem to be relaxing.
We all were shocked by the Clippers/Pistons trade last week. The trade that sent Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, and other things. We all know about the summer blockbuster trades that sent Chris Paul to Houston, and Paul George and Carmelo Anthony to Oklahoma City. Also, what looks like it may have been the spear in the Cleveland Cavaliers side, in the Kyrie Irving trade. Nikola Mirotic also was apart of a pretty big trade for the New Orleans Pelicans. These are just a few things so far that have happened with trades.
We also must remember that Greg Monroe is pretty much Celtic after a contract buyout with the Suns, and Gerald Green being a pretty huge pickup for the Rockets. There are a few teams that due to injury need to make something happen by Thursday at 3 pm Est. There are also a few teams that need to do something due to injuries to important players.
Here are some teams that need to do something by Thursday in order to stay the course in the playoff hunt.
Cleveland Cavaliers –
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that there are problems all over the organization. From the front office all the way down, the team just isn’t together. They have dealt with rumors of Dan Gilbert wanting to sell the team, Ty Lue’s job being in jeopardy, and team chemistry. My personal opinion, they need to trade Isaiah Thomas. He’s been the Achilles heel on defense since his return from injury, and he’s also been a bit of a locker room problem. He reportedly singled out Kevin Love during a players-only meeting, and he’s made some pretty bad comments. They reportedly offered the LA Clippers, JR Smith, Tristan Thompson, and a 2018 first round pick for DeAndre Jordan. The Clippers declined, but the pieces were offered. The Kevin Love injury doesn’t help them, especially on the offensive end. They need to make a trade for a big man, and a guard. Namely, Lou Williams and DeAndre Jordan, who the Clippers are offering or Kemba Walker and Dwight Howard. Something has to give for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Oklahoma City Thunder –
Andre Roberson, the best defender, and worst offensive player for the Thunder suffered a knee injury last week. Of course, they still have Paul George, probably the best two-way player in the league right now. They do need somebody either bench wise or via trade that can help them sustain the defensive end. Maybe a trade for Avery Bradley of the Clippers or Marcus Smart of the Celtics. The only thing is the Celtics are looking for draft picks and the Clippers are looking young talent. The question then becomes does OKC have the assets necessary to complete a trade with either team. The Grizzlies still have Tyreke Evans on the trade block, so there is a possibility there too. The Grizzlies are seeking a first-round pick for Evans, so again it just comes down to what does OKC have to offer.
San Antonio Spurs –
The San Antonio Spurs are currently in 3rd place of the Western Conference, but that place is slowly slipping away. Kawhi Leonard is currently out indefinitely, and there is no timetable for his return. While Kawhi is gone, the Spurs need a player that can play both ways. They need to tighten up the defense and score some points. They have a team filled with people that score, but their defense is lacking. They are set to get Rudy Gay back from injury soon, but they still need one more player to help. Tyreke Evans would also fit here, or Tony Allen who just got traded to Chicago last week. Tony Allen is known for his defense, and he can give you a few points as well.
Milwaukee Bucks –
The Milwaukee Bucks have been playing great ever since the firing of Jason Kidd. They have an All-Star in Giannis, and they got back Jabari Parker last Friday. They could use a big man in Milwaukee. They don’t necessarily need one for points, but suring up the defense. Joakim Noah would probably be a good fit here, barring a buyout by the Knicks. They could also maybe offer the Clippers something for DeAndre Jordan. The Wizards have put Marcin Gortat on the trade block, so maybe the Bucks can make a move that way. There are no clear-cut facts that say they are searching, but if the opportunity presents itself… A big body presence in the middle would be amazing.
Minnesota Timberwolves –
Shabazz Muhammad has made it clear that he wants out of Minnesota. There are a few teams that could use a guy like Shabazz, and the Timberwolves could use some offensive and/or defensive help. They could make a play for Tyreke Evans or maybe even Joakim Noah, given his history with Jimmy Butler and Tom Thibodeau. I could see Minnesota making a move on Noah after a buyout if it happens. There are a few ways that situation could play out. They could also make a trade for Marcin Gortat or Nerlens Noel. We will see what happens over the next 24+ hours though.
These are just a few teams that we could see making a trade before the deadline Thursday. Who do you think should or will make a Trade? Tweet us your thoughts @TheUtilityMan17! We love to hear from you guys!
