Following an investigation by Sports Illustrated, Carolina Panthers majority owner Jerry Richardson has decided to sell his stake in the team at the conclusion of the 2017 season. The SI report found that the Panthers had internally had confidential settlements with four former employees regarding incidents of sexual harassment that involved Richardson.
After the report surfaced, the NFL announced that the investigation would be taken over by the league themselves. That prompted Richardson to decide to sell the team, he released a statement on Sunday:
The announcement of the sale has led multiple high profile celebrities to speak on their interest in buying the team. Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is an avid Panthers fan, took to Twitter to let the public know that he wanted to buy the team:
That led to NBA star Steph Curry wanting in on the bid, responding to Diddy’s tweet. Finally, NFL QB Colin Kaepernick also made a statement saying he wanted in on it as well.
